Other Services
We offer a comprehensive package of support for the surviving spouse and their family. This includes:
Re-direction of Mail
We will liaise with the Post Office to make sure that all mail is re-directed.
Junk Mail
We will also register clients with the Bereavement Register to ensure that they do not receive junk mail addressed to their deceased spouse. This can continue for years and can be extremely upsetting.
Sheltered Accommodation
We have a comprehensive list of the sheltered housing that is available throughout the U.K. and can advise on the purchase or rental of suitable accommodation for the surviving spouse.
Advice on Choosing a Care Home
We have a comprehensive list of care homes throughout the U.K. and can advise on choosing a home that is suited to each client’s personal needs.
Advice on Providing Care Home Fees
Care homes are expensive. Through a specialist firm of financial advisers we can give advice on the best and most tax efficient way to provide for care home fees.
Protection of Client’s Assets
If a person has assets of more than £13,500 then the Local Authority will usually require them to pay the whole cost of their care home fees. Many people are outraged when they discover that the Local Authority can seize their home to pay for the cost of their care and there has been a great deal of coverage in the media about the injustice of the current system.
Fortunately there are a number of strategies that can be used to put assets beyond the reach of the Local Authority. We can arrange for advice on this from a solicitor with specialist experience in this area.
Enduring and Lasting Powers of Attorney
If the surviving spouse is no longer able to manage their own affairs it might be necessary for the Executors to apply for a Lasting Power of Attorney. We have a specialist solicitor with expertise in this highly complex area of the law.
